When you start off in Calliope you are still living in an upstairs bedroom at your parent's house. If you want to continue you living with them, you must find gainful employment. When you first begin, you will not have much money so, your choices will be limited.

Early Jobs

Homesteading (One way to start your own town) – Right from the start you qualify for Calliope's homesteading program. Meet up with Alex, you can usually find him outside of the theater, and ask him to join the program. In exchange for a ridiculous amount of land, you must fill weekly (real world week) orders from Calliope. On your land, you will initially farm animals and/or plants, which you can use to fill your orders and sell for profit. You can upgrade your land, invite others to live on your land, sell or rent plots, and eventually start your own town.

Driving Jobs – There are several entry level driving jobs in Calliope. You can head over to Jack's Auto Repair and get hired to bring in broken down vehicles. This is the quickest route to your own vehicle. If you do not want to tow cars you can head down to the industrial part of town and talk to Frank. Frank will give you a job delivering packages. Does a normal job sound boring to you? Maybe you would like to try your luck in an illegal street race? Buy or borrow, whatever you must do to get your hands on some wheels, then talk to Ralph to learn the meetup times. Other driving jobs include: Police, Firefighter, Taxi, Delivering pizza, delivering newspapers, and picking up trash. All jobs allow you to compete with other players via leader boards.

Employee – Get hired by another player to either work in their shop, crafting items for their store, or go out and gather the items they need to run their business.

The Economy of Calliope

  • Rent a shop or a factory.
  • Hire NPCs and PCs to work for you.
  • Craft items, build relationships with both NPCs and PCs.
  • Go on grand quests to find the items needed to craft special items.
  • Sell your items to both NPCs and PCs.
  • Homesteading – cultivate your land, recruit others, build a town.
  • Colonizing – Do you have what it takes to rough it on an Asteroid or another Planet?
  • Corporations – recruit others, open shops, buy land, start an HOA, build a town.
  • Craft special items that when consumed give permanent special abilities.

Suppliers

Players that choose to Homestead (or are rich enough to buy a farm in a town) can grow crops and animals. Farmers then sell their goods to Zoologists, Tailors, grocers (NPC), Tinkerers, Cuisiniers and Shipwrights. Plants your seeds, then protect your plants until they are ready for harvest.

Like Farmers, players that choose to Homestead can set up a mine on their land. Dig up stones, metals, gems and artifacts which are sold to Jewelers, Tinkerers and Shop Owners.

Tinkerers create a wide range of gadgets (Trinkets, Weapons, Traps, Instruments, Electronics and more) that improve a players chance of survival inside and outside of Calliope. These items are then sold to Shop Keepers and NPCs (or kept by the Tinkerer).

Jewelers buy metals, stones and gems from Miners and create wearable items that provide bonuses or increase stats (Watches, Necklaces, Rings, Head Items, trinkets). Jewelers can then sell their items to NPCs, or in bulk to Shop Owners.

Tailors buy cotton, wool and flowers from Farmers and explorers and craft them into fabrics and dyes. Tailors then use those materials to craft clothing items which provide bonuses or an increase to stats.

Stores

Cuisiniers buy goods from farmers and use them to create a wide assortments of foods, and drinks(potions). To edge out the competition they must explore and go on quests in order to get the ingredients to imbue their products with magical abilities, like increasing stats and other bonuses. Cuisiniers can open up shops that can sell their goods even if they are not online.

Shop Owners buy goods from suppliers and go on quests to find the items to stock their store. They have the ability to enhance the bonuses or stat increase of an item, or to change the item into something else entirely. Shop Owners are the only players that can buy items created by suppliers.
